He's trying to threaten this lady into not shunning him because he thinks he will feel dead. Clearly, the logical way to get people to keep you around is to tell them you intend to stand by their bedside and haunt them every night. It also helps if the person to whom you are speaking is convinced that, indeed, their bedmate will be too fatigued to notice your pleas for help and safety.
